Torre di Engelmaro

Ultima modifica 11 luglio 2022

Oggi è adibita a civile abitazione. E’ adiacente alla Piazza Sant’Antonino.

ENGELMARO TOWER

In 1072 the County of Geraci passed to Aldusa wife of Count Serlone who died in an ambush ambushed by Saracens near
Nicosia. Count Roger then gave Aldusa as wife to a certain Gregory Engelmaro, a noble leader to whom a fourth part of Geraci was given. Engelmaro insuperbito of the privilege received, forgetting his humble origins tried to bind the Geracians to himself.  He had a tower built higher than the one built by Count Roger. The latter ordered Engelmaro to demolish it, but in vain. The refusal angered the Count, who besieged Geraci and destroyed the Castle. Engelmaro fled, leaving his family behind. The County of Geraci then passed to Eliusa, daughter of Serlone. Today it is used as a civilian residence. It is adjacent to the Piazza Sant'Antonino.
