Bevaio della SS. Trinità

Ultima modifica 10 luglio 2022

HOLY TRINITY BREWERY

The valley that the Guglia hill forms with the Ventimiglia Castle, turning to the north shows the admirable work of the "Bevaio della SS. Trinità" built by Marquis Simone Ventimiglia on the basis of a rectangle as much as twenty meters in length with two side fountains made of freestone with four orifices that pour the waters into elegant sandstone bowls and then pour them into the central basin.  A document found in the parish archives dated January 23, 1586-May 31, 1587 informs us that the University of Geraci paid the Neapolitan sculptor Pietro de Toczo for the construction of a civic bevaio. (bevaio of the Holy Trinity?).
A crenellated-framed elevation (No. 18), rising on the gable, forms order with the two pyramidal fountain tops. On the facade of each pyramid is a coat of arms with three horizontal stripes and three stars, underlying these two masks. Surely this is a coat of arms depicting the "Three Norman Counties and the three stars replaced the original three flowers." The left building is flanked by decorative floral motifs, the right building by a vase of flowers. The original structure was higher.
Very reliable popular sources indicate that the structure was lowered in the Fascist period to make it functional as a watering trough for animals.
Inside a rectangular plaster frame is the coat of arms of the noble House of Ventimiglia depicting a rampant lion holding a sword with its front paws, while its hind legs are covered by a helmet.
Between the Bevaio and the Castle stood a small church called the "Trinity," in whose privileges we read, "ROGERIUS DE BARNAVILLA, ASSENTIENTE ELIUSA UXORE DEDIT IN TERRITORIO GIRACII IN SICILY ECCLESIAM SANCTAE TRINITATIS CUN TERRIS VINCIS ET SEX VILLANIS."
Today it no longer exists; rising in its place among magnificent greenery is the "Villetta Comunale."
Further up among the pine trees, at the foot of the Castle stands a "hangout" for young people. Relaxing and recreational moment of a country changing its face and giving its children a better quality of life.
